The Big 5

SDoH include the social, physical and economic conditions in which we live our daily lives. They affect our whole health, including mental health. The following 5 factors are considered especially important determinants of health:

Economic stability: Financial resources, employment, food security, and housing stability.

Education access and quality: Early childhood development, language, literacy, high school graduation, and access to higher education.

Health care access and quality: Access to and understanding of health services and own personal health.

Neighborhood and built environments: Quality of housing, access to transportation, availability of healthy foods, and neighborhood crime and violence.

Social and community context: Social cohesion, levels of discrimination, and workplace conditions.
