PHILADELPHIA (July 27, 2023) – Highmark Blue Shield today announced that Crozer Health has entered into a Pennsylvania Insurance Department and the Pennsylvania Department of Health approved in-network provider contract with Highmark Inc. on behalf of itself and its affiliate health plans.
Established by the 1990 merger of Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Delaware County Memorial Hospital, as well as the subsequent addition of two other hospitals, Crozer Health has become the largest healthcare provider in Delaware County. Crozer Health is a four-hospital health system with a network of outpatient services, ambulatory surgery centers, and specialty clinics.
Crozer Health joins Temple Health, Penn Medicine, and Doylestown Health as an additional health system that has entered into an agreement with Highmark Inc. in the Philadelphia region.
“As we continue to build our provider networks in Philadelphia and its surrounding areas, we are pleased to add Crozer Health System,” said Dan Tropeano, Highmark’s segment president for commercial segments in southeastern Pennsylvania. “The hospital system has several recognitions for the quality of care they provide to patients by leading healthcare names like the American Heart Association and the American College of Surgeons. They’re committed to improving the overall health of Delaware County through events and screenings that promote healthy living, so our missions to support the community align.”
The agreement with Crozer Health includes Individual Affordable Care Act, Small Group Affordable Care Act, Large Group Fully Insured, Large Group Self-Insured products from Highmark Blue Shield and its affiliates in the southeast Pennsylvania region to be effective January 1, 2024, subject to regulatory approvals.
Crozer Health was acquired by Prospect Medical Holdings, Inc. in 2016. The health care provider is a leader in community health for the Delaware County residents, providing a full spectrum of wellness, prevention, acute care, rehabilitation, and restorative care to the community.
“Crozer Health is very pleased to enter this partnership with Highmark to offer additional options to the residents of Delaware County,” said Anthony Esposito, Chief Executive Officer. “As other payers have looked away from Delaware County, Highmark sees the benefits of collaborating with a high-quality teaching health system to provide outstanding clinical and value-based care to the unique communities we serve.”
