Allegheny Health Network, Gateway Health and Highmark Inc. team up with Children's Museum of Pittsburgh to host COVID-19 vaccine clinic for kids aged 5-11 this Saturday

PITTSBURGH (November 19, 2021) — Allegheny Health Network (AHN), Gateway Health and Highmark Inc. will team up with Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh this Saturday, Nov. 20 to vaccinate more than 100 pediatric patients between 5-11 years old against COVID-19.

The first-dose clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. within the museum in Pittsburgh’s Northside neighborhood. All appointments have been reserved, and AHN clinicians expect to vaccinate approximately 125 children throughout the day. Walk-ins will not be accepted to allow for social distancing and capacity limits, as guests visit the museum.

“Partnering with like-minded local organizations to vaccinate community members throughout the region has been and will continue to be an essential cornerstone of our comprehensive vaccination strategy,” said Joseph Aracri, DO, Chair, AHN Pediatric Institute. “We’re sincerely thankful to Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh as this weekend’s clinic host and excited to mark yet another important milestone in our ongoing efforts to make vaccinations more accessible in the communities we serve and ultimately bring this pandemic to an end.”

Throughout the week, families registered with the museum for timed appointment slots. For each registration, free admission was provided for one child and one adult to redeem during the first and second dose clinic days this Saturday and December 11, respectively.

“We are thrilled to share our location with the children and families who have been patiently awaiting this critical vaccine,” said Jane Werner, Executive Director of Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. “Our campus is a place to explore joy, creativity, kindness, and curiosity. Keeping each other and our community safe and healthy is a true expression of sharing those values.”

AHN pediatric clinicians kicked off vaccine administration to kids aged 5 to 11 earlier this month, with the entire Network strongly urging parents and guardians to get their children vaccinated as soon as its available to them.

“The data has shown the Pfizer vaccination series to be notably safe and extremely effective in preventing COVID-19 transmission in this age group, with a 90.7% success rate in clinical trials,” Dr. Aracri continued. “To have our children fully vaccinated before this year’s holiday season will be critical to ensure we’re best protecting their health and wellness, and to lessen the spread in our area.”
