PITTSBURGH (January 31, 2020) — Highmark Inc. and community members will once again come together across Pennsylvania and Delaware to raise money for the 273 local nonprofit health and human services organizations participating in the annual Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community. Online registration for the walk is now open, so participants can take their first step towards completing this year's walk by registering today.
The Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community, held annually throughout the region since 2003, has helped organizations collectively raise more than $15 million. Last year, nonprofits raised more than $1.4 million in Pittsburgh, Laurel Highlands, Erie, Harrisburg, Lehigh Valley, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and Wilmington, Delaware.
Highmark organizes and underwrites all costs associated with the walk, while walkers select the participating nonprofit organization they wish to support. The nonprofits then keep 100 percent of the funds raised by their walkers.
"We are proud to see this walk continue to grow and support these outstanding organizations year after year," said Dan Onorato, executive vice president, Highmark Health. "The Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community continues to provide local nonprofits with a unique fundraising opportunity to build capacity for their mission, expand resources, and extend their work in the communities we serve."
A 5K (3.1 mile) route and a one-mile route (both are accessible for individuals with disabilities) are available, and pets on leashes are welcome. In addition to the walk, there will be entertainment, refreshments and prizes.
Walkers can register and donate now at the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community website, where they can select their walk location and the participating nonprofit of their choice.
